For Jill Marcus, the founder and visionary behind Mother Earth Group, the idea of opening a place like Coquette originated back in college when she spent her junior year abroad in Brittany, a historical region of France. It was there that she first fell in love with French culture and cuisine. Coquette specializes in some of her favorite French dishes, including oysters and duck fat fried chicken.
Jill explains, “This is not a place just for French food connoisseurs. It is a place for Charlotteans who don’t think French cuisine is for them, but are intrigued by it and are willing to give it a try.”
She continues, “It will be like being invited into a quaint French home with real food–no foam or small portions, but plenty of butter. Julia Childs would feel at home here.”
